We are a family of 5 dedicated to helping educate and support the T1D community. π©Έπ
Our Type 1 journey began back in 2021 when our middle kiddo, Drew was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes π©Έ and Celiac disease πΎ. You can read all about his diagnosis HERE. Then in 2023 our youngest kiddo, Adam, was also diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes π©Έ and a severe wheat allergy πΎ. You can read about his diagnosis HERE.
Luckily, I am a registered nurse (RN) π©Ί and my husband Dan had been on the KETO diet for about a year prior to Drew's diagnosis. Between my nursing experience and his KETO knowledge about carbs, net carbs, and all that fun stuff, we felt like we had a pretty good handle on things πͺπΌ. Now don't get me wrong, it's never easy dealing with diabetes π, but I will say that our experiences were helpful in adjusting to this new way of life.
Our oldest son, Danny has been such a trooper π₯° these past few years adjusting to all of the changes as well. Diabetes is for sure a disease that affects the entire family. He has learned so much and is a fantastic support to his brothers. π
Aside from life with Diabetes, we are also a homeschooling family π. This has also been a blessing for us, not having to deal with different teachers and 504 plans and such (much love to all the mamas going through this, I know it can be overwhelming and stressful) π«ΆπΌ. We have been homeschooling since 2019 and so far, it has been a good fit for our familyβs needs. If you are ever wanting to chat about homeschool, you can sign up for my homeschool email list HERE.
We live in the Buffalo, NY area π² and enjoy spending time with family/friends, especially while camping during the summer months. We bought a camper π in 2023 and it has quickly become one of our favorite things to do! Do you camp? ποΈ I would love to hear some of your favorite campgrounds to visit.
We also have 4 cats π (Leo, Loki, Callie, + Fluffy). We started off with 2, then back in 2020 we found a litter of kittens (5) in our window well and fostered them until they were old enough to go to wonderful homes of their own π . We fell in love with 2 of them and couldn't part ways, so now we have 4 cats! π
Our house is almost always loud and hectic π€ͺ (expect to hear a lot of beeping between 2 Dexcoms and 2 pumps π’π€) but we are also a house filled with a lot of love and support. We want what is best for our boys and although living with allergies and chronic autoimmune diseases isn't something that we planned for, here we are.
We truly believe that things happen in life for a reason, and although Diabetes sucks, we have so much to be grateful for. ππΌβ€οΈ
